Nisi Jacobs
Biography

NISI JACOBS, a New York-based video artist, has had work exhibited in film/video festivals in Paris, Berlin, Hong Kong, UK, San Francisco, New York, and Tribeca Film Festival (2003). Her work is distributed through The New York Film-Cooperative, RoArtario Paris/Berlin, and the artist's site www.thefieldprocess.com. Ms. Jacobs instructs digital video editing at NYU's Graduate Center for Advanced Digital Applications, Harvestworks, and for private clients. She received her BFA from Cooper Union in Painting and spent much of the 1990's working in oil painting; Ms. Jacobs switched to videomaking with the advent of Apple's Final Cut Pro in 1999, studying video in the Cinema Department at SUNY Binghamton, founded by her father in 1969, with new Chairperson, Vincent Grenier', and Ken Jacobs, just prior to his retirement. Her anti-war documentary "TO THE PEOPLE OVER THERE", produced by Jon Gartenberg, was created soon after the first anti-war demonstration in NYC and was distributed via internet to schools and grassroots organizations internationally, including an English professor's class in the Arab Emirates, long before U.S. mainstream media began seriously reporting public opposition to the Bush war. Ms. Jacobs is currently making a personal documentary entitled "RIGHT SHORE/WRONG SHORE" contrasting the memories of survivors of the Holocaust with those of Jews growing up in the America during Hitler's Nazi Germany. Ms. Jacobs curates an experimental monthly video/film program at The Phatory Gallery (www.thephatory.com), entitled PAN-POT / THE PHATORY OUTLET and will bring two video programs from the series to SYNCH, the 2nd Edition of Electronic Music & Digital Arts Festival in Lavrio, Athens Greece, in July 2005.
