RE: DEDICATION TO FERNAND LÉGER

J’ai revé au film des “24 heures” d’un quelconque, métier quelconque... Des appareils mysterieux et nouveaux permttent de les prendre ‘sans qu’ils le sachent” avec une inquisition visuelle aigue- 1933 Fernand Léger

A couple of years ago in Paris someone gave me a short essay by Fernand Leger written in 1933. In that essay he dreamed of making a 24 hour film which would show the daily life of a family – any family – during the span of 24 hours. Since he never made that film I decided to try to do it for him. I assume that he had meant the film to be a real life, uninterrupted 24-hour-day film. My video, in that sense, is only an approximation of Leger’s vision. The life of the family in this video –my family- stretches through some 7 years.

The video should be shown on twelve monitors, two hours on each monitor, all running simultaneously, image and sound. The monitors should be placed in a square room – around the walls- with a meter and a half separation between each monitor, approximately.
