Mr. Scher's short animated films – none longer than seven minutes – are optical joyrides. He copies by hand all kinds of found film, including old cartoons and Hollywood movies, in different colors and degrees of abstraction and painstakingly shoots his own new cells one by one. Set to delightful musical soundtracks, these collages of constant metamorphosis are dazzling and mesmerizing to watch.
